Installation of Timber Sashes into Existing Frames (Boxes)
In some cases, complete replacement may not be possible or necessary... and in these instances we may be able to refurbish existing box sash windows by installing new timber sashes into existing frames. Single glazed or double glazed, as long as the existing box is deep enough to take the weights and double glazed sashes.
If your current frames are in good shape, we can replace the sashes with new timber singles that match the original. This process maintains the window's character while giving it a fresh, functional look. Refurbishment with new timber sashes provides an eco-friendly option that revitalizes windows without losing their historical touch.
Complete Box Sash Replacement
For smootly operating sashes, especially in old period properties where walls may no longer be level or when frames are showing signs of timber decay, complete box sash replacement is our recomendation and best option for a long term investment. Not only you'll get top quality / smoothly operating windows, it also allows for more energy efficient windows, achieving u-value of 1.2.
Sash windows are not just windows; they are a key feature of period homes and we say, if budget allows, invest long term and go with complete replacement for the best fit and most energy efficient windows that will last a life time. Complete replacement is more cost effective over the time, if style of the windows is replicated carefully and quality timber is used.
It is also important to understand that installation of sashes into existing frames is classed as repair and hence this work can not be certified (as per building regulations).
