Sash Window Refurbishment
Whilst we would always recommend complete box sash replacement as it is most cost effective over the time and most reliable way to ensure smooth operating energy efficient windows, in some cases, complete replacement may not be possible or may not be necessary. On such occasions we can refurbish existing box frame and install new timber sashes into existing frames. We can do this with single glazed or double glazed sashes, as long as the existing box is deep enough to take the weights and double glazed sashes.
This is only something we would reccommend if original box frame and timber cill is in pristine condition. If the access to the box frame has been blocked for some reason, we will look at refurbishing pulleys, cheeks and possibly replacing timber cill too.
Overhaul and Draught Proofing Sash Windows
Windows that do not need replacing, but need a little tweak / draught reduction, we provide overhal and draught proofing services that include replacement of the beads for draught proofed ones as well as the overhauling of the windows, installing new nylon cords and re-balancing; thus reducing draft by 95%, eliminating rattling sashes and reducing noise levels.
Complete Box Sash Replacement
For smoothly operating sashes, especially in old period properties where walls may no longer be level or when frames are showing signs of timber decay, complete box sash replacement is our recomendation and best option for a long term investment. Not only you'll get top quality / smoothly operating windows, it also allows for more energy efficient windows, achieving u-value of 1.2.
Sash windows are not just windows; they are a key feature of period homes and we say, if budget allows, invest long term and go with complete replacement for the best fit and most energy efficient windows that will last a life time. Complete replacement is more cost effective over the time, if style of the windows is replicated carefully and quality timber is used.
It is also important to understand that installation of sashes into existing frames is classed as a repair and hence this work can not be certified (as per building regulations).
